Devstream 183 was our last of 2024! With the release of Warframe: 1999 right around the corner, the couch crew revealed some intriguing new details surrounding The Hex members, including Gemini Emotes for Quincy and Eleanor, Ability changes for Nyx, a full breakdown of Cyte-09 and more. We also showed off an entirely new Scaldra character, our new Faceoff game mode, and our first-ever Romance & Relationship System. Warframe's new era just can't arrive quickly enough!
As always, you can watch the full stream below, and/or read on for our complete Devstream Overview:
Rhino is our next Heirloom skin, slated for release early next year! Here’s a look at his in-game render for the first time:
Together we have raised over 1 MILLION dollars to Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation!
We have also made another donation of $18,845.83 CAD on the behalf of the community to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. That total is the combined amount from Conquera Merch net-proceeds and 100% of the sales from the Conquera Tribute Shirt, purchased by you from October 31st to November 28th. Thank you again, Tenno for your incredible support this year!
The campaign’s final reward of a Double Affinity Booster is live now until December 2nd at 2pm ET!
On-lyne have postponed their tour until 2025, meaning you will not be facing off against the Technocyte Coda with 1999’s release.
We couldn’t get this new Technocyte Coda system implemented to our standards in time for Warframe: 1999, and felt it was best to invest developer time into must-ship items for the update. This feature was the “cleanest” part of the update to separate into another update, coming next year.
That said, a good boyband never leaves their fans hungry. Thanks to the incredible efforts of Tenno who participated in our latest ARG, On-lyne have released their next hit single: The Great Despair! Look for it tomorrow on all streaming platforms, or simply listen to the official YouTube upload on repeat:
If you want to support your new favorite boyband to party like it’s 1999 head on over to store.warframe.com to pre-order new On-lyne merch!
We’ve been sharing previews of our incredible partnership with The Line to produce a Warframe Animated Short. Players can look forward to its official release on December 5th. In the meantime, here’s a little tease of what to expect:
We didn't want to give away too much 1999-related info with the release date now so tantalizingly close. Nevertheless, we had a LOT to discuss regarding Warframe's next major update:
If you want to jump into The Hex Quest right upon release, make sure you have the following pre-requesites completed:
While you’re waiting, make sure you jump into the Warframe: 1999 Demo (available now via the Pom-2 computer in your Orbiter!) to grab your very own Protokol Longsword Skin.
There’s someone you haven't met yet - a leading figure in the Scaldra enemy faction who you will meet in the quest, Lieutenant Viktor Vodyanoi. Neil Newbon rejoins the Warframe voice cast to bring him to life!
While fighting the Scaldra, you will be taking on a Tank as an assassination target. Here’s a look at some of the… complications that can arise from that Mission:
Those who have visited the Höllvania Mall may be FAMILIAR? with the Hex, but we’ve brought details on how each member functions within The Hex Syndicate itself.
Quincy:
Quincy offers a variety of cosmetics and Captura scenes to keep you looking fresh:
Arthur:
Visit Arthur to rank-up in The Hex Syndicate. Big Bytes has left its impact, as all ranks are pizza-themed. Cowabunga!
Aoi:
As The Hex’s resident On-lyne Stan, she offers new Somachord Tones from Warframe: 1999! According to Erich, this is the most music we’ve put into an update — basically a full album’s worth!
Eleanor:
Eleanor offers Arcanes in exchange for Hex Standing. She’ll also bring Technocyte Coda weapons when that launches in 2025!
Lettie:
Visit Lettie to exchange Syndicate Medallions for Hex Standing! The Syndicate Medallions are themed around each Hex member
Amir:
Following in Arthur’s footsteps, the remaining Hex have been Floof-ified!
Head to the Bounty Board in Höllvania Central Mall, and play missions to earn standing for The Hex Syndicate!
Each Bounty will have a Hex member who joins you in-mission — playing with them will also earn you Chemistry as part of the Romance & Relationship System. The assigned Hex member is randomized per Bounty rotation so you can play different mission types as you romance your boo!
The Romance & Relationship System allows players to gain Chemistry with members of The Hex. Players can interact with this feature in a variety of ways, depending on their comfort and interest levels.
Bounties:
Play Bounties to earn Chemistry with the assigned Hex member! This ensures you can increase your Chemistry rank purely through gameplay, if you’re not interested in the narrative aspect of this system.
Chatroom
Access the KIM program on your Pom-2 to chat with your faves! Here you can have deeper connections with these characters and dive deeper into the lore of Höllvania through unique conversations that are available once a day (per Hex). This immersive experience has over 166,500 words of writing (two novels’ worth!) and is intended to take players time to fully explore — don’t expect to be smoochin’ on day one, Tenno!
Check the Hex’s profiles in KIM (Kinemantik Instant Messenger) to see your Chemistry rank, catch up on your notes about their personality, and more! In this screen you’ll also be able to give them gifts, as another way to increase your Chemistry!
Starting Over
If you regret breaking up with a Hex member or simply want to try a new way to earn their hearts — in honour of our QA Lord Paul, first lover of all Hex — you will have the ability to reset your progress after a set interval.
For more details, look to our patch notes on launch.
Smoochin’
Speaking of kisses, here’s a preview of the kiss scene with Eleanor!
Warframe 1999 brings our first “player vs player vs enemy” game mode: Faceoff!
Whether you play against AI or against other Tenno, this game mode pits two squads against each other to complete objectives before the other side. Teams will experience a random series of three different mission types that they must complete in succession — for example: Exterminate, then Assassination, then “Data Burn” (a new spin on Excavation). At the time of writing, there are 6 unique objective types that can spawn in Faceoff!
While speedily completing objectives is one thing, we want to make sure you can still impact your competitors’ progress. Various Boosts and Hindrances will spawn amongst the landscape; pick them up and trrigger them to brighten your Squad’s day or add a wrinkle to the other team’s mission. There are currently around 10 different Boosts and Hindrance types to play with!
Regardless of whether you win or not, both teams will earn rewards for playing. Winners will get a bonus prize of Vosfor as their trophy.
Passive:
Each Weak Point Kill permanently increases Cye-09’s Weak Point Critical Chance by 1% (up to a cap).
Ability 1: Seek
Deploy a scanner that highlights the weakpoints on enemies it detects. Detected enemies take increased Weak Point Damage, and become visible through walls. Weapons gain (an insane amount of) Punchthrough.
Note: this Clip also offers a preview of the 1999 mission selection screen!
Ability 2: Resupply
Throw two Elemental Ammo Packs that instantly refill the active weapon’s magazine, while granting the weapon an additional instance of the selected Elemental Damage and Status Effect. Reload clears the effect. Sniper Rifles gain extra damage.
Hold the ability to select the Elemental Damage type.
Ability 3: Evade
Jump backwards and become invisible for a short duration. Killing enemies on their Weak Points extends the duration and heals Cyte-09. This is Cyte-09’s Helminth Ability.
Ability 4: Neutralize
Summon the Neutralizer, Cyte-09’s exalted Sniper Rifle. Bullets ricochet off Weak Points to seek out other nearby Weak Points. Alt fire lobs a Cold grenade that completely freezes enemies.
Coming with Cyte-09 is the Reconifex, which borrows mechanics from his Resupply — and from the Sirocco pistol!
Land a perfect reload to increase your Reload Speed and imbue your bullets with Heat Damage:
While Rebecca didn’t have much success showing off Quincy’s Gemini emote in-game, here he is in all of his glory in the Arsenal:
As a reminder, we offer separate hair customization options for Gemini skins, and auxiliary attachments to remove certain accessories (like Quincy’s hat!).
Rebecca managed to safely pull off the emote in-mission so here’s Eleanor’s Gemini transformation:
For those Fashion Frame hounds out there, here’s a look at how she’ll customize in-game:
While we personally love the voicelines that play while using Gemini Skins, you will be able to mute them in your settings if you wish.
(Note: we don’t often address rumours directly, but we do want to clarify that Major Rusalka is NOT Proto Saryn.)
As part of our New Player Experience improvements this year, one of the largest pieces of feedback we’ve heard from players is “increase default slot counts!” — so, we’re doing just that.
New Players as of Warframe: 1999 will see their default slots increased as follows:
Weapon slots: increased by 3
Warframe slots: increased by 1
Additionally, we are changing Boltor and Fragor blueprints earned from Junctions to fully built weapons, meaning new players will earn 2 additional weapon slots as they progress through the Star Chart.
If you’re an existing player, these additional Warframe and Weapon slots will be delivered to you via inbox message with the Update’s release. Depending on your Junction progress, you’ll receive the fully built Fragor and Boltor as well.
Mastery Rank Tests will no longer make you wait 24 hours upon failing an attempt. This means you can continue with your Mastery Rank attempts until you succeed — with only a bruised ego holding you back from trying again!
The cooldown timer will remain for successful attempts.
Those who tried the Warframe: 1999 have sent us great feedback on Atomicycle handling, which we’ve been diligently working on for release.
In addition to general handling and movement improvements, also look forward to the following changes when you get your very own Atomicycle upon playing The Hex Quest:
-Increased number of Atomicycle abilities from 2 to 4.
-Can now be cast mid-air (hell yeah).
-More forgiving over small bumps/objects
-And more!
Nyx, our beloved, is receiving some ability changes to coincide with the inclusion of her Protoframe in 1999!
We’ve covered this rework extensively in our Dev Workshop, but as a quick overview, here’s what has changed:
Again, this is the barest overview of the amazing changes our team has cooked up. Please read the Developer Workshop for details on her rework (and more details on what’s coming for Trinity as well).
Caliber Chicks 2 is a new Arcade game, brought to Warframe: 1999 in collaboration with our friends at Sumo Digital! We’ve previewed parts of this game in previous Devstreams, but here’s a look at the gameplay:
This game will include leaderboards for those fiending for a high score.
Let’s take a brief moment to look into the future as we discuss something on our radar for next year: Operator Art.
In designing our Hex Syndicate members, the technology we’ve used is significantly better than what was available to us in 2015 for the Operators’ release. We’re looking to revisit the aesthetic of Operators (specifically Faces and Heads), and want your feedback!
If you’d like to share your thoughts, please do so in this dedicated thread.
Thanks for joining us, Tenno!
