Whether you’re brand new to Warframe or you’ve been a veteran player since day one there’s no shame in looking for a little bit of help. Region Chat, the Community Forums and fansites like the Warframe subreddit are great places to discuss builds and weapons with fellow Tenno; but sometimes it’s just nice to sit back and let someone else do all the work.
Whether you’re looking for a quick description of a brand new weapon, or a general guide on how to Mod your favorite Warframe it’s players like Mogamu that help make everyone’s lives easier. Known for his easy to follow and informative Warframe tutorials Mogamu’s Youtube channel has been a remarkably helpful (and fun) resource for Tenno of any skill level.
If you’ve ever wanted to learn a little bit about the man behind the smooth-talking videos, this edition of Community Spotlight is for you.
Why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hello! My name is Mogamu and I make Youtube videos almost exclusively for Warframe. I have been doing this for about two years now and -laughs- it’s really gone by pretty fast. I’ve enjoyed it so far.
What inspired you to start making videos for Warframe?
Well, I had a video gaming blog a few years ago because mostly I just love video games. I’ve always played videogames ever since I was a very young child, like most people. I wanted to either make videos or participate in the industry in some way. I liked videogame magazines when I was younger so that was always something I was interested in. Either making video games, or being a part of video games in some way.
I had a video gaming blog which I did for about two years or so, but I had to stop that and spend more time on my job. After that I tried out Warframe and I was no longer blogging or doing anything game related. I made a video for it and people seemed to like it, so I decided to do more gaming stuff again. Warframe was kinda the catalyst for me to come back to gaming.
And what drew you to Warframe?
Well, mostly I prefer games where I can play with other players. Co-op. I was never really into PvP games per say so I was really looking for a co-op game to play with people who I was already playing videogames with. I actually googled “online multiplayer co-op videogames” and very early on Warframe was high up in that list.
So I checked it out and one of the first things I saw was a developer livestream I think. A very early one. I listened to developers talk about the game and it sounded really cool. I saw a few screenshots, didn’t get to see any video, so I downloaded it. It was only 500mb at the time and I had a really slow internet connection -laughs-. So that was a perfect fit for me.
I was in shock that no one had heard of the game at the time.
All that from a crazy specific Google search.
Right? That’s it. Apparently Google is either creepy or amazing. I haven’t figured out which one.
And most of the videos on your Youtube channel are tutorials?
Right. The first video I made was me demonstrating weapons that my friends didn’t have time to get themselves. I wanted to show specific weapons. I think the first video was a melee weapon. I wanted to show friends that video and what weapons were in the game. But as people started watching videos people started having questions about the weapons.
I never set out to do tutorials, people just had questions about the videos I did. I wanted to help people, especially people who didn’t have time to figure things out for themselves. I thought maybe I could figure it out for them. They wouldn’t have to worry about testing things or figuring out how things work.
So you started making sample videos for your friends and they just kind of caught on.
Absolutely! I had about three to four friends and we would play games like Left 4 Dead and of course Warframe, and I was just making videos for them. It just caught on.
How long does it take to make a single video?
Well, when I started it would take me most of the day. It would take about four to five hours to play the game, record it, and get past all the technical road bumps that I had to deal with. Now, because I’ve built up such a library of software and I’m pretty familiar with the way the game functions I don’t have many technical difficulties. Plus I’ve a lot of templates based on graphics or things I want to do.
So now to just do the video it takes me about an hour and a half.
What kind of video editing software do you use?
I prefer the Adobe Suite. Right now that is Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, I use Adobe Fireworks over Photoshop because it seems to be a little bit faster. Every now and then I use Adobe Audition if I ever need to do anything sound related.
We often make adjustments to some weapons over time, have you ever wanted to revisit one of your older videos based on new updates?
Yes! I would love to, but sometimes Warframe is so large and a lot of times there’s a lot more demand for something that’s newer. I’ve noticed that as Warframe goes along the content tends to be a lot more appealing. Like a new Warframe will be a lot more appealing than a Warframe that everyone is all used to.
Because there’s so much content, I think we’ve got hundreds and hundreds of weapons, I fall behind a little bit. Every now and then I’ll try to revisit weapons that people tend to be a lot more curious about. So if I revisit weapons it’ll be something like the Penta or popular weapons like bows. Or Boltor Prime. Usually weapons that people would like to use but people aren’t sure how to use them properly.
Now you do videos on events as well, is there a particular event you’ve enjoyed covering so far more than any others?
I think the event I liked the most was the one where Darvo had a chance to speak directly to the player. A Favor for Darvo. I thought that was really awesome. It was something unexpected and it had a lot of humor in it. It broke up the normal flow of the game in a surprising and interesting way.
That was one of my favorite events, and I really liked talking about it.
Do you have a favorite weapon?
My absolutely favorite weapon right now would be the Paris Prime or Dread. The bow mechanic is so fun. I think it’s one of the stronger bow mechanics of any videogame. It takes so much skill to land a headshot or fire when sliding. It takes a lot of skill to use it, so it ends up being very fun for me.
Plus it looks cool. -laughs-
How about a favorite Warframe?
I’m torn on this. Originally when I first started playing my favorite Warframe was Ash, because ninja. As we went along I think Excalibur’s radial blind got buffed a little bit, and I really liked blinding enemies. Then that armor skin came out and once I got a hold of Excalibur’s Proto Skin I haven’t looked back.
If you could help determine what our next Update would be, what would you have us include?
I would love to see more of an expansion on the lore. More story missions where players could play through the story with some voice dialogue guiding us. Maybe something that could make Warframe’s lore feel a little bit larger, like you’re directly flying a ship to a space to an objective. It would be great to see the game expand more that way. To really feel like you’re a part of Warframe’s lore.
Thank you Mogamu, for both letting us ask a few curious questions and for helping support our incredible community with your work over the past year. We certainly look forward to seeing your future content and hope you’ve all enjoyed this more video-based edition of Community Spotlight!
