Building Warframe: Atlas

After the complex forms and Abilities of Equinox the team was happy to go back-to-basics. Beating enemies to death with your fist is a refined art, and any Warframe meant to exemplify close-range combat needs to be strong, lean, and intimidating. Atlas is a return to simpler form -- one that's been biding its time for the perfect moment to strike.

multiple iterations of concept work, Atlas' design resonated with us from the start.

High neck muscles, an intimidating helmet, and a very fleshy, muscular armor make Atlas intimidating by design. It was important that when the time came to bring this close-range combatant to life we kept the design of this incredible art intact as best we could.

The original concept was drafted back in 2014, but with so many interesting Warframe concepts already in development Atlas stayed quietly hidden until the time was right for such a unique and straightforward style of play. PBR detailing lets us put a lot of incredible emphasis on the musculature of such an aggressive Warframe, and the final result is like the concept come to life.

Of course Atlas doesn't always stride alone into battle. Designing his rocky companions seems pretty straightforward, but finding a good mix of shapes and sizes for sentient boulders takes time and a bit of experimentation.

Fearsome and unrelenting, Atlas' final design is a wonderful representation of everything we had intended him to be. A great example of remarkable concept brought to life with minor adjustments, Atlas and his rocky friends are sure to give Tenno a nice variety of options when it comes to breaking through the opposition.

We hope you've all enjoyed this look into Atlas' creation on this edition of Building Warframe! Let us know what you think, and we'll be sure to share some more behind-the-scenes content with you soon.
