Building Warframe: Ivara

Every Warframe starts with a vision, and finding a way to translate that vision into something uniquely Tenno takes unconventional creativity. The Archer, Ivara, was always meant to be a huntress without peer but with so many different iterations of what an Archer can look like planning her design was a unique challenge.

For many of our Warframes the design process starts by accenting any unique Abilities; and in the case of Ivara it means focusing on both her weapon of choice and her preferred terms of engagement.

There are a few elements that immediately stand out when looking at Ivara's original concept, such as the classic archer hood and her unique arm-mounted mechanical quiver. Its easy to look past at first, but one of the most important of Ivara's features is the texture and pattern of the Warframe's suit. Inspired from the color morphs found on tree frogs this unique pattern offers a natural camouflage that perfectly blends her sci-fi elements, on top of giving players the opportunity to create some incredible color variations.

All of these features serve to accent a single large eye, putting a heavy emphasis on her ability to hunt down enemies with peerless vision. As one of the few obviously inorganic parts of Ivara it stands out without being distracting, tucked away under the darkness of her hood. Likewise her quiver accents Ivara's purpose without being distracting or cumbersome -- the perfect fit for a versatile warrior.

This early iteration of Ivara in-game is a great example of how much of a difference her unique coloration makes in standing her apart from other Warframes. Even before PBR or dramatic detailing has been added to the model we can see her overall concept translates well in game. Of course with a tiny bit of extra attention Ivara's natural camouflage really comes to life…

The final product is a Warframe that's evocative of a deadly hunter, capable and to adapt to her surroundings. With a complex array of tools at her disposal we're excited to see what kind of huntress she becomes in Tenno hands.

We hope you enjoyed this look at Ivara's development while learning a little bit about her design inspirations. Let us know what you think in the comments, and be sure to keep an eye out for our next edition of Building Warframe!
