Devstream 50 Overview

This week's Devstream was a huge milestone for us, marking the 50th time we've sat down in front of the big camera to chat about the past, present and future of Warframe. To mark this momentous occasion we spent a bit of extra time focusing on 50 hot-topic questions from the community covering every facet of Warframe.

Some we could give immediate answers to, others are very difficult to comment on. If you'd like to see the full hour and a half of Q+A, our Devstream 50 can be viewed here

Otherwise, here's a condensed breakdown of Devstream 50 for your viewing pleasure!

Warframe China

  • Update rhythm will be similar to consoles.
  • Some cities in China have limited bandwidth.
  • There may be more content related news for China, but if there is we’ll be sure to let the community know!

Tombs of the Sentient

Update 17 is the next major update, and the current name for it is Tombs of the Sentient. This means you can expect to learn more about this mysterious threat with U17, but we'll be able to talk a little more about what's featured in it the closer we get to launch!

Nartas and Emotes

· The Eclipse Narta is definitely coming back, and other emotes will be released alongside it!

· We do have another big pile of emotes coming, and we plan on re-releasing the Eclipse Narta with these other emotes.

· This includes the greeting emotes, and 'secret handshakes' tied in with each Syndicate.

Warframe Playstation Theme

We are currently working a unique Warframe theme for Playstation users, but at this time don't have a release date! We'll let everyone know as soon as we get to release.

Graphic Death Animations: Where did they go?

· Gore hasn't been moved away from, but the system we currently have in place was meant to lean more towards slashing weapons than any other damage type.

· Many enemies in-game don't have the same death rigging as older enemies, so their death animations lack the obvious gore and dismemberment that Lancers or Crewmen have.

· We do want to update the death graphics of our new enemies, and may do so in the future.

New Tonfa + Themed Weapon Sets

· Our new work-in-progress weapon has definitely received some attention for its unique look when we showed off the concept in design council.

· The entire sculpt is uniquely crafted, using no recycled parts.

· Having weapons that share visual elements help unite a look for players.

Quest System Goals

· Our top priority is creating a quest system that is more stable, with smoother releases.

· We definitely want to expand on Quests and give players more lore to dive into.

· A long-term goal for Quests is to let players create their own Quests to share with others, very similar to what Neverwinter has.

Liset Interior Customization

Liset customization is something we've discussed in the past and it's definitely on the way!

Cloth Mechanics and PBR

· PBR updates are still slowly rolling out, and players should expect to see more PBR updates over the coming months.

· Giving an object PBR material takes quite a bit of time, but we're getting fast and more efficient at it!

· We're currently taking a look at every Warframe to see if we can't freshen up their visuals in a way that doesn't leave players waiting too long.

· A soon-to-be-released Syandana will be our first major test to see how well we can get cloth to work in-game. If it's a success (and players like it) we may look at implementing the texture on Trinity and Frost.

Syndicates and Standing Gain

We're absolutely thrilled to see that over 65% of our playerbase is currently interacting Syndicates in some way, whether earning standing to purchase Mods or progressing in ranks for cosmetic equipment and lore. That said, Warframe's ultimate goal is to allow players to enjoy their time in-game without feeling absolutely dependent on one game mode.

As we expand Conclave, Quests and Syndicates we hope players will continue to give us feedback on what is (and isn't) fun, to help us better develop a variety of game modes that keep players always looking forward to new content.

Teshin

· Teshin is totally not a Tenno.

· There will be a quest to better flesh out Teshin's story, and his history with the Lotus.

Trials - What's Ahead

· Nightmare mode is soon to come for the Law of Retribution.

· We would like to release a new Trial for Update 17, and then a Nightmare mode for the new trial close to 17.5

Parkour 2.0

· 'Coptering' will be affected by our movement overhaul, as will slide jump and wall running.

· Stamina system is also going to be updated in this overhaul.

· Parkour 2.0 will also affect Conclave, and our PvP team will be keeping these adjustments in mind when the time comes.

· Our main goal is to reign in abilities that players have come to rely upon, and make them more reliable to use.

Stalker Rework

With the release of the Manic we know that the Stalker's thunder has been stolen. Rest assured, when we give the Stalker his mini-overhaul players will once again fear the consequences of their actions.

Excalibur Rework

· Frost was originally the first Warframe we looked at to adjust, but so many players were asking for Excalibur adjustments that we decided to reprioritize.

· Slash Dash will be changed from a singular slash in one direction to a multiple hit attack against all enemies in a cone. Using a melee attack will cancel this action, and cancelling will auto-equip a melee weapon.

· Radial Blind will be able to be used on the move and will open up enemies to finishers. Excalibur will get custom execution animations.

· Super Jump is being removed.

· Radial Javelin will be moved to his third Ability Power, and will see some adjustments.

· Excalibur will receive a new fourth Ability Power, allowing Excalibur to draw his sword and slash energy waves forwards into enemies. This will have its own custom stance.

Void Adjustments

· Our tweaks to the Void are to help reduce / remove fatigue players feel from always going to the same tilesets.

· The main goal is to redistribute rewards so that players will want to visit other locations (in addition to the Void).

· The Void will still be a location players will be able to go to.

Nexus App

We're looking to add more functionality to the Nexus App, including:

· Clan Chat

· Crafting and Foundry Monitor

· Minigames that earn you useful in-game things

Mastery Rank and Rewards

We're currently very dissatisfied with login rewards for new and veteran players, and we're currently working on overhauling those rewards. Expect more details on this as we get closer to release!

General Details

· Dojos will eventually receive hosting in the same way that Relays have.

· Our current goal is for Mission rotations and rewards to be improved for U17.

· Syndicate skins, weapons, and other things will be coming to Syndicates.
