Some Reasons for Rejection
While we’d love to accept as many community submissions as possible, we can only include items that fit well within the Warframe universe. We’ve compiled a list of common reasons we have to reject submissions -- be sure to keep all of these in mind during the design phase to save yourself time later on if adjustments need to be made!
Copyright:
- We cannot accept any items that infringe on the copyright of others. Taking inspiration from you favourite works is fine, but the design should wholly be yours. Yes, we have a sword with a glowing edge, but we will not have a sword that deploys with a unique hum that reminds you of a major space knight IP that debuted on May 25, 1977.
- This also applies to images or materials used in your design -- avoid using things like clipart where the content rights and licensing aren’t easy to source.
Art style:
- We will reject items that break the immersion of the Warframe universe. We are the first to admit that we have made Candy Cane scarfs and had Grineer walking around with Easter Bunny Ears, but those items come in and out of the game quickly. We do not want those narrative breaking elements in the game permanently.
- All content in Warframe is grounded in a faction, and this counts for TennoGen as well! Yes, you get to push the boundaries, but we can’t accept an item that is simultaneously Corpus, Grineer, and Tenno across various details. Please also make sure to reference official items in the game for clues on each faction’s specific style signatures.
- Your item needs to stand out from the crowd! Avoid making something that is too similar to existing content, whether it’s made in-house or added via TennoGen. We’re looking for items that bring fresh ideas to the game so be sure to step up your A-game!
- Obscenity should be avoided! Warframe is an M-rated game, but that doesn’t mean that sexual themes are appropriate for your TennoGen content.
Some examples:
- Too modern day (a 1:1 copy of a AK47. Instead interpret that as the Soma)
- Wrong art style without any of Warframe’s visual themes incorporated (too cartoony, too high fantasy, etc.)
- Contemporary references, pop culture, and 'meta'. While we have fun with this during holiday times your goal should be something that fits with the Warframe universe as it is.
Technical limitations:
Technical limitations vary per piece, and we’ve outlined the content guidelines in our TennoGen Checklists, which can be found here or in all file downloads. There are some general limitations that should be avoided in all TennoGen content:
- Too many small details that won’t show up well in-game
- Too many emissives. Less is more!
- Poor quality or too simple textures
- Lumpy surfaces
- Baking errors
- Floating elements not supported by the faction
